Transition to a big girl bed

It’s been a while since I wrote my last post, we hit a hard patch a few weeks ago we had a mayor sleep regression with Elena. However, this helped us to do her transition to a big girl bed. While I feel like there are more things that I want to do her room. Wanted to share the update we have till now.

Ha pasado buen tiempo desde mi ultimo post. Tuvimos una crisis muy intensa con Elena hace algunas semanas. Que se reflejó como una regresión en su sueño. Pero por el lado amable nos ayudó hacer la transición a su cama de niña grande. Y aunque su habitación aun no está terminada, me gustaría compartir el progreso que llevamos hasta el momento.

When you try everything and nothing seems to work

For over 5 weeks Elena had issues to sleep in her own room. Which was unexpected to us since she had been sleeping in her own bedroom since she was six months old. Over that time, we were trying to find the right way to help her get back in track without breaking the rules that we have set for her about sleep time. It was hard, we tried books, new sheets for her crib, different white noises, even a therapist.

Durante aproximadamente 5 semanas Elena había tenido problemas para dormir en su habitación. Ella ha dormido en su cuarto desde que tenia 6 meses. Así que esto nos tomó totalmente por sorpresa de pronto un día decidió que su cuarto le daba miedo y no quería dormir ahí. Intentamos de todo, libros, sabanas nuevas, diferentes sonidos de fondo, hasta una psicóloga.

Let’s hit the reset button

Thank god, a few weeks after hitting the reset button her sleep is finally improving. She is going to bed without fuzz most nights and sleeping in her bed. For about two weeks she rather sleeps on the floor over some blankets that we end up laying down for her, than sleeping in her crib. This as a parent is not easy to see, but we were determined that she needed to sleep in her bedroom as she had been doing for almost 3 years. Time fix it all, but when you are not able to sleep, time moves so slow.

Gracias a Dios después de algunas semanas de haber reiniciado su rutina para dormir, parece que por fin estamos mejorando. Se va a dormir sin llorar la mayoría de las noches, y esta durmiendo en su cama. Ya que antes prefería dormir en el piso que en su cuna. Como papas esto era muy difícil para nosotros, verla dormir en el piso y oírla llorar en las noches. Pero estábamos determinados a que ella tenía que dormir en su recamara como lo había hecho durante casi tres años. Y en definitiva el tiempo lo arregla todo, pero cuando no te dejan dormir el tiempo avanza mas lento de lo normal.

Time to transition to a big girl bed

We already had plans to change her crib to a big girl bed, but I had another style on mind (something like this), something more mature and functional. But in one of my venting sessions with one of my mom friends she mentioned that she got a loft bed for her little girl and that she loved it. And after trying a bunch of different things we decide to give the cool fun loft bed a try.

Antes de que pasara todo esto ya teníamos planes de cambiar su cuna por una cama para que estuviera mas cómoda. Sin embargo, yo tenía un estilo muy diferente en mente, algo un poco mas funcional y estilizado (Como este). Pero una de mis amigas mamas, me recomendó esta cama que le había comprado a su hija y que había sido un éxito. Y dentro de nuestra desesperación después de haber intentado de todo decidimos ordenarle una cama diferente y divertida como esta.

Let’s make room for teh big girl bed

We already had a dresser from Ikea that I loved in her room. So, we had to move things around to fit the new bed. We placed the order on amazon for the bed and the mattress. It took around two weeks to be delivered. Just a fair warning, is really tricky to put the bed together there so many pieces it took us a whole day, but Elena loved so it was worth it.

En su habitación ya teníamos una cómoda de Ikea que nos encanta. Entonces tuvimos que acomodar de manera diferentes los muebles para hacerle espacio a la nueva cama. La cual ordenamos por Amazon junto con el colchón. Llego en aproximadamente quince días. Y solo una advertencia es bastante complicada de armar nos tomó todo el día, pero valió la pena porque a Elena le encanto.

I have not found a bedding that I really like for her room. But since we needed something for her to sleep, I got her these Frozen sheets. And she just uses her blanket at night. There is no way that she is not using that blanket. I still want to add a rug for her to play more comfortable in the space down the bed and also, I want to get rid of the hearts on the wall. That was her baby theme. Put this is the progress so far. I will update once I get more stuff.

Aun no encuentro una sobrecama que me guste para su habitación. Pero como necesitamos que pudiera dormir en ella, le compramos unas sabanas de Frozen para empezar. Y en la noche se tapa con su cobija de bebe la cual no suelta. Además, me gustaría poner una alfombra debajo de la cama para que sea mas cómodo para ella jugar ahí. Y quiero quitar los corazones de la pared ya que eso eran del tema de pusimos para su cuarto de bebe. Pero este es le progreso que tenemos hasta el momento. Les ire actualizando conforme vaya modificando más cosas.
