One day in Paris

Have you ever joked around with your friends asking each other what would you do if you had a day in some place you have always wanted to go? Last November I had the opportunity to spend one day in Paris. My husband had a business trip to Germany, and I was able to tag along read a little bit more about the decision here. After all the work meeting were done, we had two days to explore around, so we took a train from Frankfurt to Paris.

¿Alguna vez has bromeado con tus amigos, acerca de qué harías si tuvieras la oportunidad de pasar un día en un lugar al que siempre has querido ir? El noviembre pasado tuve la oportunidad de estar un día en Paris. Mi esposo tenia un viaje de trabajo en Alemania y tuve la oportunidad de ir con él. Un poco mas de como tomamos esa decisión en este post. Después de que terminaron las juntas de trabajo, teníamos dos días para explorar nuestros alrededores, así que tomamos un tren de Frankfurt a Paris.

Paris had been a dream of mine since I can remember, I used to daydream about walking on its streets, eating at a café, going to the museum all the art the fashion everything seems so special. So, when my husband said “it would only be one day do you still want to go” the no brainer answer was, yes. The minute I knew we would be in Paris I started all the research possible trying to figure out how the spend or day there the best way possible. And one of my favorite Travel Blogs is Katie’s Bliss. I really like the way she writes, and the recommendations we took from her blog were right on point.

Paris ha sido mi sueño desde que tengo memoria, solía soñar despierta de como seria caminar por sus calles, comer en algún café, ir a los museos, todo el arte y la moda que la rodea es muy especial. Así que cuando Javier me dijo “solo tendremos un día en parís, ¿aun quieres ir? La respuesta inmediata fue sí. En el momento que confirme que iríamos, empecé hacer toda la investigación posible para tratar de descifrar que haríamos en el día que tendríamos ahí y como utilizar nuestro tiempo de la mejor manera. Y uno de mis blogs de viaje Favoritos es el de Katie’s Bliss, me gusta mucho que tiene recomendaciones de todos los ámbitos y rangos de precio, y las recomendaciones que seguimos nos gustaron mucho.

We arrived at Paris on a Friday around noon, we immediately took a taxi, to our hotel to check in, freshen up a little bit, and go to grab a bite. This was the first recommendation we took from the blog, since we didn’t know where to eat or if the people in the places around would understand us. We tried something safe, we went to Bistro Saint Dominique, it is a walking distance from the Eiffel tower, so it worked perfect. The food was delicious, one of the things that we find out once we got there is that some places have their especial of the day that includes, an appetizer, entrée, desert and wine pairing. This was a great way to try different things. And since I never finish my dishes, I would order a simple entre and Javier order the package and we would share. This was a great deal for us.

Legamos a Paris un viernes a medio día, e inmediatamente tomamos un taxi de la estación del tren a nuestro hotel, registramos el ingreso nos refrescamos un poco, y salimos a comer. Esta fue la primera recomendación que tome del blog de viaje que les decía, como era nuestra primera vez en París no sabíamos donde comer, o si en todas partes nos entenderían, así que decidimos empezar por algo seguro, y fuimos a Bistró Saint Dominique, esta cerca de la torre Eiffel así que podríamos caminar hacia allá una vez que comiéramos. La comida estuvo deliciosa, una de las cosas que descubrimos están ahí es que varios lugares te frecen el especial del día, que incluye entrada, plato fuerte, postre y vino. Fue una buena forma de probar cosas diferentes. Y como yo nunca me termino mis platillos, lo que hacíamos era que yo ordenada platillo sencillo Javier el paquete y los dos comíamos de ambas cosas.

After lunch we started walking towards the Eifel tower, as we got closer, I had to pinch myself to remember me that it was real, I was there, and this was happening and of course I could not stop smiling. We walked around the tower for a while but we didn’t go up, we were trying to use our time wisely, so instead we bought tickets for the tour on the Seine River this way we could get a glance of Paris in a short amount of time. I think we were on the ship right before the sunset, in the tour you pass 13 bridges, and can see a few of the landmarks, like Notre Dame, with the repairs going on we knew we could not visit, but it was amazing to see it from the outside even under repair. We went back to dock right when the sun went down as the first light show of the tower started, it was magical.

Después de comer, caminamos hacia la torre Eiffel, conforme nos íbamos acercando, tenia que pellizcarme para confirmar que todo eso era real, que de verdad estaba ahí y no podía dejar de sonreír. Caminamos un rato alrededor de la torre, pero no subimos, estábamos tratando de usar nuestro tiempo de la mejor manera posible, así que mejor compramos boletos para el tour en el Rio Sena de esta manera podríamos tener una probadita de Paris, en poco tiempo. Nos subimos al barco antes del atardecer, y en el tour pasamos 13 de los puentes, y pudimos ver unos cuantos, de los edificios más importantes de Paris, como Notre-Dame sabíamos que con la reparación en proceso no podríamos ir, pero aun viéndola de lejos y en reparación era impresionante. Regresamos al puerto justo cuando se metió el sol y cuando el primer show de luces de la torre Eiffel comenzaba, fue mágico.

We were advised by a few people that it is always best to have a dinner Reservation in Paris, most of the dinner reservation start at 8:00 pm. So, after the little cruise tour, we had time to kill, so we walked to The Arc of Triomphe, again we did not go up, we just went around it, and it was really impressive, I mean you see it in movies and tv, but nothing compares to be there in person it was amazing. After that we made our way into the Champ Elysees for a little while, after that we took and an uber to our dinner reservation at Racines des Pres.

Una de las cosas que nos aconsejaron personas que ya habían ido a Paris, fue que hiciéramos reservación para las cenas, y la mayoría de las reservación para cenas empiezan de las 8:00pm en adelante. Así que después del tour en el Rio Sena, teníamos algo de tiempo antes de nuestra reservación así que para matar un poco el tiempo caminamos hacia el Arco del Triunfo, y de nuevo no subimos solo anduvimos en los alrededores, y aun así era muy impresionante,  nada se compara a verlo en persona las películas y la televisión no le hacen justicia. De ahi caminamos un rato por Champ Elysees, y cuando vimos que ya casi era hora de nuestra reservación tomamos un Uber hacia el restaurant Racines des Pres.

This restaurant was another recommendation from the blog, and a really amazing place, the server was super friendly everyone trying to help to understand what you are eating, and the food was amazing. I’m a picky eater, so eating abroad was one of my concerns, what if I don’t like anything to eat. But I was so wrong, I don’t know if my travel spirit is more foodie adventurous than my daily me. But I tried everything even the weird looking things and let me tell you I don’t regret it at all, everything was delicious I guess this is why French cuisine is one of the best in the word. So if you ever go to Paris or France, please try to eat real French food. You will thank yourself forever. Following dinner we called it a night, since we wanted an early morning start.

Este restaurant fue otra de las recomendaciones que tome del Blog que les mencione anteriormente, y nos encanto, los meseros eran super amigables, siempre tratando de ayudarnos a entender que era lo que estábamos comiendo, y la comida estaba deliciosa. Yo soy un poco delicada con las comidas (para decirlo tiernamente) y la verdad comer en el extranjero era una de mis preocupaciones, que iba hacer si nada de lo que pidiera me gustara. Pero fue todo lo contrario, yo no sé si mi espíritu viajero es más aventurero con las comidas que yo en el día a día, pero probé de todo aun la cosas que se veían super extrañas y todo estaba riquísimo. Si algún día vas a Paris o Francia, hazte el más grande favor y prueba comida francesa de verdad, te lo prometo que no te arrepentirás. después de la cena, estábamos super cansado así que tomamos un Uber de regreso al hotel. queríamos descansar ya que el día siguiente queríamos levantarnos temprano para continuar explorando.

On our second half of the day in Paris, we set an alarm to get us ready and going early and we took advantage of our hotel complementary breakfast. Then we went out to grab an Uber to our first museum. We are kind of geeks and really like going to museums when we travel. I really wanted to go  D’Orsay museum, I love the impressionist art, so this one was a must in my list, Javier really wanted to go to Louvre and see Mona Lisa, so we set timers 2 hrs. in D’Orsay museum a little tight but we had to make it work. And then 2-3 hrs. in the Louvre museum. Somehow or Uber driver drop us on the other side of the river, and told us that we could take the bridge to the museum, to our surprise that bridge was The Pont des Arts, so of course we took a few minutes, to leave of lock in there. A little something extra that we did not plan.

En nuestra segunda mitad del día que teníamos en parís, pusimos alamar para levantarnos temprano y bajamos por desayuno que estaba incluido con nuestra estancia en el hotel. De ahí nuevamente tomamos un Uber directo al primer museo de nuestra lista. Puedo decir que Javier y yo nos consideramos gente que de verdad disfruta los museos, así que siempre que viajamos a algún lugar nueva tratamos de ir a visitar los museos importantes de cada lugar. En esta ocasión yo quería visitar el museo D’Orsay , me encantan las pinturas de los impresionistas y este museo tiene varias en exhibición, Javier quería ir al museo Louvre para ver la Mona Lisa, así que decidimos asignar alrededor de dos horas por museo algo apretado, pero no teníamos mucho tiempo así que teníamos que hacerlo funcionar. Por alguna razón desconocida nuestro Uber nos dejó en el otro lado del rio de donde esta el museo y nos dijo que solo teníamos que cruzar el puente que estaba a un lado de nosotros, y para nuestra sorpresa ese puente era The Pont des Arts, así desde luego no perdimos la oportunidad para dejar un candado con nuestros nombres. Algo extra que no teníamos planeado.

We got to the museum right when they were opening and we already had our tickets so we went right in and I’m so happy we did it, D’Orsay museum had and special exhibit of Degas one of my favorite artist from my ballet years, all of my screen savers from my teen years where there live in front of me and this is something I’ll treasure forever. But the main reason that I wanted to go to this museum was Monet and Van Gogh, and because I already knew what I was looking for I took a map and went right to it. Which was great because I was able to take pictures like this.

Llegamos al museo, justo cuando estaban abriendo, y ya habíamos comprado los boletos por internet, así que entramos directamente. Curiosamente D’Orsay tenía una exhibición especial de Degas uno de mis artistas favoritos de mis años en Ballet, todos los fondos de pantalla que tuve de adolescente están enfrente de mi en vivo, y eso es algo que atesorare por siempre un pequeño regalo de Paris para mí. Pero la razón principal por la que quería ir a ese museo era por Monet y Van Gogh, y como ya sabía que era lo que estaba buscando, tomamos un mapa y nos dirigimos directamente ahí, lo que funciono de maravilla porque casi no había gente y me pude tomar fotos como esta.

After two hours, of pictures, paints and a little souvenir for Elena, we set our way to the Louvre, again we bought our tickets in advance so after taking a few pictures in the famous glass pyramid, we went right in. Javier really wanted to see Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, so one more time we grabbed a map and went looking for these master pieces right away, obviously stopping a little here and there to see things that caught our attention, but trying to keep up with our time. This museum is huge, so is good to know what you’re looking for because you can totally spend an entire day there and not see everything.

Después de dos horas de fotos, pinturas y un pequeño regalito para Elena, nos dirigimos a Louvre, como ya teníamos los boletos que habíamos comprado en línea podíamos entrar directamente, pero primero nos tomamos fotos en la famosa pirámide de cristal antes de entrar al museo. Javier quería ver dos cosas la pintura de Mona Lisa y Venus de Milo, así que de nuevo tomamos un mapa y nos enfocamos en encontrar estas obras, parando aquí y allá cuando algo nos llamaba la atención, pero tratando de avanzar lo más rápido posible. Este museo esta enorme así que es bueno saber que es lo que quieres ver y enfocar en encontrarlo antes de deambular, ya que fácil puedes perder todo un día ahí y no ver todo lo que exhiben.

Following the Louvre, we were starving so we just crossed the street and went in to the first café we saw Café Palais Royal, this was the most random meal we had in the entire trip and even that was so good. The place was packed, and the server were running around and making room to fit everyone, I had only seen something like this in Mexico City and it was interesting to see some similarities between the two cities. After lunch, we pretty much walked around until we arrived to 31 Rue Cambon, home of Chanel, sadly no souvenir for me, but I was nice to be there and add a few things to my dream wish list. Later we ate a crepe and coffee in a little café Creperie des Artistes we found in the street we were walking this was a day of experimenting, and still everything was nice. We had a super early fly next day so called it a day went to the hotel to pack and tried to rest a little bit before or trip back home.

Al terminar nuestro recorrido del Louvre, teníamos mucha hambre así que en cuanto llegamos a pie de calle entramos al primer café que se nos cruzó, que en este caso fue Café Palais Royal, esta fue la única comida que seleccionamos al azar en todo el viaje y también nos encanto. El lugar estaba llenísimo, y los meseros movían todo para tratar de hacer lugar para todos los comensales, la única vez que vi algo similar fue en el DF y fue muy interesante encontrar una similitud entre las dos ciudades. Posteriormente de comer, simplemente caminamos en los alrededores hasta llegar al 31 Rue Cambon, hogar de Chanel, tristemente no compre nada, no había presupuesto en el viaje para algo así, pero fue divertido estar ahí y agregar cosas a mi lista imaginara de cosas que quiero. Después de caminar un poco más llegamos por un café y una crepa a una crepería que encontramos en nuestro camino, Creperie des Artises, este fue el día que mas nos dejamos sorprender y todo estuvo riquísimo también. Al terminar nos regresamos al hotel a empacar y preparar todo, ya que teníamos un vuelo super temprano a las 6:00 am teníamos que estar en el aeropuerto, para regresar a casa.

And this was one of the most amazing days in my life. So never feel discouraged if you only got a day somewhere, make the best of it. I can assure you it will only make you want to comeback as soon as possible to keep exploring.

Y este fue uno de los mejores días de mi vida. Mi consejo para ti no dejes pasar una oportunidad de conocer un lugar nuevo porque solamente será un día, aprovecha lo mejor que puedes. Te aseguro que solo te darán mas ganas de regresar lo antes posible para seguir explorando.
