4 Ways to style White Sneakers

Never I thought I would be writing about sneakers, 3 years ago I was a busy woman working my seven to five job, studying my master’s degree and trying to conquer the baking world one cake at the time. So, my outfit few times used to include sneakers. If I’m being honest, I think I had only two pairs of sneakers and one of them was a workout sneaker.

Nunca me imaginé que algún día escribiría como hobby, mucho menos que escribiría sobre tenis, hace tres años era una mujer con un trabajo de oficina, estudiando mi maestría y tratando de conquistar el mundo de la Repostería un pastel a la vez. Así que mis atuendos pocas veces incluían tenis. Y si soy completamente honesta creo que en ese entonces solo tenía dos pares de tenis y uno de esos era para hacer ejercicio.

What can I say, it was not part of my daily life, and now entering the present mom life, me running behind a fast toddler, doing groceries, cleaning the house you know all the fun “stuff” that a stay at home mom gets to do on the daily basis. I’m definitely not doing all of that stuff in 6” heels, I needed a comfortable shoe that would support my lifestyle, but it had to be a little bit stylish. And I think that a white sneaker accomplishes just that.

Que les puedo decir, simplemente no era parte de mi vidia diaria, pero eso nos lleva al presente y mi vida de mama, que incluye correr atrás de una niña de dos años, ir al supermercado, limpiar la casa y todas esas divertidísimas actividades que una ama de casa hace a diario. Y definitivamente no estoy haciendo todo eso en tacones de 6”, para estas actividades necesito zapatos cómodos que se acomoden a mi estilo de vida, pero sin sacrificar el estilo. Y creo que un par de tenis blancos logran ser cómodos y estilizados al mismo tiempo.

And you have no idea how thankful I’m for this trend, it is ridiculous how much a shoe can improve an outfit, even if both pairs are sneakers. I have changed from my around the house sneakers to my going out sneakers more times than I can remember (is that just me?). So, I’m going to share 5 ways to style the two pairs of white sneakers I own.

Y qué les puedo decir, no saben lo agradecida que estoy por esta moda de usar tenis con todo. Es ridículo la gran diferencia que hacen los zapatos en un outfit, aun si ambos pares son tenis. De hecho, en mas de una ocasión, me he cambiado de mis tenis para andar en la casa a mis tenis de “salir” (Por favor, dime que no solo soy yo). Así que hoy voy a compartir con ustedes dos de los tenis blancos que tengo, que es lo que me gusta de ellos y como los he usado.

Dress with sneakers

The first pair of white sneakers I bought was a Stan Smith from Adidas, and what initially draw me to them was that they had a little bit of pink even though most of the sneaker was white. I desperately wanted a sneaker that would look good with dresses, I feel like this pair gets the pull together look adding comfort to the mix. I have had this pair for around 3 years now, and honestly back then I was not that aware that my style would shift a little more in to neutral colors, I have proof in my closet that I was a little bit  obsessed with colorful clothing, honestly I still am draw to color items but I try to pick them a little bit more carefully If you ask me I would rather have the gold one right now.

El primer par de tenis que compré fueron unos Adidas Stan Smith, y lo que inicialmente me atrajo de ellos es que a pesar de que el tenis es blanco tiene un toque de rosa, Si bien el modelo más popular es verde, obviamente le tenía que poner un poco mi estilo. En ese entonces estaba buscando un par de tenis que pudiera usar con vestidos y que no se viera desalineado y creo que este par cumple con ese objetivo añadiendo comodidad a la ecuación. Tengo este par desde hace aproximadamente 3 años, y honestamente en ese entonces no sabía de que mi estilo cambiaría un poco, para ser más neutral, pero tengo pruebas en mi closet que hace tres años estaba obsesionada con colores vibrantes en mi ropa, y la verdad aún me llaman mucho la atención, pero trato de escoger las piezas con colores vibrantes con más cuidado ya que son un poco más difíciles de combinar. Cuando estaba escribiendo este post los descubrí con el detalle dorado y ahora los tengo en mi lista de deseos, para futuras compras.

Jeans with sneakers

I wore these Stan Smith to my trip to New York where we walked a lot, and I mean a lot, for three days nonstop, and they were amazing, those were the only shoes I wore the entire trip and they were great great I think they look awesome with all of my outfits, I love how versatile the were from jeans to dress, it was a good and comfy choice. Even for my everyday outfits jeans and sneakers is my go to and I feel these make the jean look more put together then a sporty sneaker.

Usé estos Stan Smith en mi viaje a Nueva York, donde caminamos muchísimo, durante tres días sin parar y estos zapatos fueron maravillosos; estos fueron los únicos zapatos que usé en todo el viaje, y funcionaron a la perfección, además de que creo que se ven muy bien con mis outfits, desde los básicos jeans hasta con vestidos. Y siguen siendo mi opción numero uno incluso en mi estilo diario, jeans y tenis es una de las opciones que uso mas seguido y siento que cuando uso tenis blancos el outfit se ve mas alineado, que con otro par mas deportivo.

Pros, they are super comfortable, subtle statement color, goes amazing with dresses, jeans, shorts you name it. Cons I would like the tongue to be a little bit shorter, but other than that it is a great pair, and there is a bunch of colors to choose from (I’m loving the gold one right now) if you are not a pink fanatic like myself.

Los pros de este par de tenis son, que tiene un sutil toque de color, combinan con todo: vestidos, jeans, shorts y mucho más, y son super cómodos. Contras creo que lo único que no me gusta de estos tenis es que el diseño de la lengua es un poco larga de lo que estoy acostumbrada, pero fuera de eso es uno de mis tenis favoritos y la gran ventaja es que hay muchos colores de los cuales puedes escoger (El dorado es mi nuevo favorito), si no eres fanática del rosa como yo.       

Leggings with Sneakers

The other pair a I own is the Adidas Grand Court sneaker. This one it is really similar to the Superstar model with the difference being the toebox (the front part of the sneaker I totally google that word) the superstar has a texture toebox and the Grand court it’s plain like the Stan Smith. What initially draw me to buy these was the neutral color in the stripes, more subtle than the pink in the Stan Smith I already had, I like the gray tone on them and the fact that they are a little bit sportier looking. Which is great for leggings, shorts and jeans. I especially like how they add a little more of a relax look to the outfit above, the faux leggings, sweater and coat combo can be a little dressy, but when you add the sneaker it makes everything more relaxed. Which I love.

El otro par que tengo es el Adidas Grand Court este estilo es muy similar al popular modelo de Adidas Superstar, la única diferencia es la puntera (la parte de enfrente del tenis, obviamente lo busqué en Google) el superstar tiene una puntera con textura y el Gran Court es lisa como los Stan Smith. Lo que inicialmente me atrajo de estos tenis fue los tonos neutrales de las lineas, me gusta el tono gris que tienen y el hecho de que tiene un look más deportivo. Lo que los hace geniales para combinarlos con leggings, shorts y jeans. Especialmente me gusta cómo pueden relajar un outfit. Como en la foto de arriba, los leggins de imitación piel, suéter y abrigo, puede ser prendas de vestir, pero cuando agregas los tenis a la mezcla todo el conjunto se relaja y funciona. Y por eso me encantan.

Shorts with sneakers

I once had the “brilliant” idea to wear these sneaker for hiking, after all it was a  paved trail, we walked around 2 hours stopping on the way to catch our breath, and oh my god, did my knees hurt like crazy  after that hike, not to mention that my  feet were killing me when we finish the trail, but that was kind of expected. So yeah, it was not the best idea to wear these sneakers for hiking, that is on me, I did it because it looked good with the outfit, I promise I learned my lesson, it will never happen again.

Una vez tuve la “brillante” idea de usar estos tenis para ir de hiking, después de todo el camino por que iríamos estaba pavimentado, caminamos alrededor de 2 horas parando de vez en cuando a recuperar el aliento, y mis rodillas me estaban matando después de hiking, y sin mencionar que también me dolían los pies, pero eso era de esperarse. Así que definitivamente no fue la mejor idea usar esos tenis para ir de hiking, esa fue mi culpa, lo hice porque se veían bien con el outfit que me puse ese día, y lo prometo que aprendí mi lección, y no volverá a pasar.

After the hiking incident I kept wearing them for errands and daily basis, but even when I’m not hiking, I feel like these shoes are not comfortable for long hours, after a little while I need to change shoes or get my slippers so I would not recommend these for Disney trips or anything that includes lots of walking and standing. But I have to say that my husband suggested to get new insoles for them, and they do feel better now. And I really like how they look with shorts for spring and summer, like the photo above. So, to recap, Pros I like the way they look, sporty, nice neutral color it is a really cute sneaker. Cons it is not made for long walks or hiking.

Después del incidente del hiking seguí usándolos para actividades diarias, y aun cuando no había actividad intensa, siento que estos tenis no son cómodos para usarlos por largos periodos de tiempo, después de un rato necesito cambiar de zapatos o ponerme mis pantuflas. Así que no los recomendaría para usarlos en Disney, en actividades que requieran de mucho caminar o estar parada por mucho tiempo. Sin embargo, me gustaría añadir que Javier me sugirió ponerle plantillas nuevas, y después de hacerlo se sienten un poco mas cómodos. Y la verdad me gusta mucho como se ven con shorts para primavera verano así que esta fue la solución perfecta para seguir usándolos. Para recapitular: Pros, se ven muy bien con la mayoría de los outfits, agregan un toque deportivo a los looks diarios, tienen un color neutro. Los contras no están hechos para caminar las distancias o para ir de hiking.

Both are great additions to any wardrobe it all depends on what else do you have in your closet, how you would like to style them and for what activities you would like to use them. Hope the little review was helpful and let me know if you have any more questions.
